DebiCheck collections for vehicle rentals
How authenticated debit orders fit vehicle rental books, mandate hygiene, and settlement to the financier’s own account.

DebiCheck is South Africa’s authenticated debit-order framework. For vehicle rental and rent-to-own books it is often the backbone of monthly collection: the customer authenticates a mandate, and subsequent collections run under rules that reduce surprise debit disputes compared with legacy non-authenticated orders.
Settlement belongs to the client
The most important commercial fact for platform buyers: collections should settle to the financier’s bank account through the financier’s payment provider profile — not into the software vendor’s account. Rent 2 integrates with NetCash so DebiCheck mandates and collections orchestrate inside the agreement lifecycle while money movement stays on your rails. If a vendor cannot state this clearly, treat it as a red flag.
Mandate hygiene is product work
DebiCheck fails in operations when mandates are incomplete, mismatched to the contract, or never re-established after banking changes. Platform work includes linking mandates to contracts, surfacing status in the customer portal and ops console, and triggering the right human follow-up when authentication stalls. Pay Now (card / instant EFT) then becomes the catch-up path when a debit misses — not a replacement for the monthly mandate strategy.
Collections are more than a successful debit
A paid instalment is necessary but not sufficient. Operators need invoices that match the collection, ledger entries that reconcile, retries with sensible backoff, and an arrears ladder when retries exhaust. Cost-to-collect from the first SMS or call matters once you scale. See our guide on an arrears ladder that cures accounts.
Channels around the mandate
Reminders by SMS, email and optional WhatsApp reduce avoidable failures (insufficient funds timing, expired cards on catch-up, customer confusion). Those channels are configuration-dependent; WhatsApp in particular is optional and requires Business API setup. The mandate remains the primary rail.
What to ask vendors
- Do debit orders settle to our account or yours?
- Can we use our existing NetCash (or equivalent) commercial relationship?
- How are mandate states visible to ops and customers?
- How do failed collections enter an arrears workflow with audit?
- Are stubs available in non-production so demos do not need live money movement?
Rent 2’s answer is client settlement, tenant credentials, mandate-aware workflows and env-gated live vs stub behaviour. Read integrations and payment features, or book a demo with a real collection scenario from your book.
