Early settlement and exit checklist
What operators need when a customer settles early, exits or the asset returns — beyond a spreadsheet formula.

Early settlement and exit are where spreadsheets usually lie. A customer wants a figure today; ops recalculates by hand; finance discovers fees or interest treatment later; the asset returns without a refurb gate; the next renter inherits ambiguity. Operator software should make exits as deliberate as origination.
Settlement that matches the product
Rent-to-own schedules, deposits, arrears, fees and promotional terms all affect a defensible settlement figure. Evergreen pure rental may not use the same maths. The platform should compute from contract state and ledger — not from a side calculator that drifts from invoices.
Checklist mindset
- Confirm identity and mandate/payment state.
- Produce settlement quotation with validity window.
- Collect via approved channels settling to the client account.
- Close or restructure invoices and post ledger entries.
- Handle asset return, inspection/refurb and remarket vs dispose.
- Release or update security/registration steps per your legal process.
- Customer communication pack and audit artefacts retained.
When exit is not voluntary
Default exits and repossessions still need settlement of what is owed, cost capture, agency handoff and redeploy. Cure metrics should not treat a later recovery after NPL as an early cure. Link your exit suite to collections and recovery boards rather than a disconnected legal folder.
Redeploy is part of exit economics
Returned stock has refurb cost, downtime and a next contract. Platforms that track per-asset lifetime P&L help you decide redeploy vs dispose with eyes open. See also telematics in recoveries.
Rent 2 includes early-settlement and exit tooling beside the ledger and redeploy board. Review features and how it works, then bring a recent exit case to a demo — real cases expose spreadsheet gaps faster than slideware.
